Military achievements: Pioneer grad completes basic training

E1 Private Orion Birdsell completed basic military training at Fort Benning in Georgia.

Birdsell, a 2013 graduate of Pioneer High School, completed an intensive 17-week program training in infantry. He will continue infantry training at Fort Carson in Colorado.

Birdsell is the son of Kristopher and Nikky Stuhlmiller and the grandson of Margaret Birdsell and Wayne and Thelma Theriault, all of Carson City.

Carson grad completes basic training

Air National Guard Airman Stephanie S. Carlquist of Carson City graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

Carlquist completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an Associate in Applied Science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Carlquist is the daughter of Sylvia and Anthony Carlquist of Carson City. She is a 2012 graduate of Carson High School.
