Nevada inmate in prison since 1983 dead at 71

A 71-year-old inmate has died at the state prison in Carson City where he’d been serving up to a life term on sexual assault and robbery charges since 1983.

The Nevada Department of Corrections confirmed late Monday that Dennis Blood died at the Northern Nevada Correction Center’s medical facility on Saturday as a result of a chronic medical condition.

Blood was convicted of two counts of sexual assault in Clark County and sentenced to five years to life prison on each count with the possibility of parole. He also was serving consecutive sentences of 15 years for robbery and six years for battery by a prison.

His family has been notified and an autopsy is pending.
