Two women, landlady and tenant, whose disagreements have extended over a considerable period of time and who have been threatening to interview Justice Witherell for some time past, finally met yesterday in the Sheriff’s office (the most convenient place for a scrimmage), and engaged in a rough and tumble fight, woman fashion — principally hair pulling and scratching — the landlady having the best of the fight until the officer arrived and arrested them. The landlady promptly paid her fine and left. The tenant was incarcerated for a period and then her fine was paid. The question is by whom?

100 years ago

Prof. Vernon Bailey, of the biological survey of the Smithsonian Institution at Washington, was a recent arrival in Carson and will remain here a few days making arrangements for the exploration and exploitation of biological subjects. Research is said to begin in the fall.

70 years ago

Maximillian J. Koeck, 68, master brewer at the Carson City Brewery, died last night in a Reno hospital following a short illness. Koeck, a native of Munich, Germany, had been in Carson for two years and this country for 43 years.

50 years ago

The Capitol Press Club of Carson City won its second straight Nevada Press Club Softball Championship in Tonopah by defeating the Las Vegas Press Club 25-16 in a thrilling pitchers duel. Following the game, the trophy was presented to Carson City manager Cy Ryan. Disgruntled Las Vegans promptly stole half the trophy.

30 years ago

Douglas County Commissioners Thursday approved an emergency ordinance restricting watering in two Douglas subdivisions. Watering can only be conducted between 5 and 11 a.m. Residences with even numbered addresses can water on even numbered days and with odd numbered addressees on odd numbered days.
