RSVP carnival celebrates state’s sesquicentennial

For the 29th year, the Nevada Rural Counties Retired Senior Volunteer Program is sponsoring its Nevada Day carnival Oct. 30 - Nov. 2 in Mills Park.

“We will have a lot more family fun and entertainment this year than ever before,” said Susan Haas, executive director and CEO of RSVP.

Kicking off the event will be Family Night from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, when rides will be $1 each courtesy of Carson City Toyota Scion. Tickets in advance are available at the dealership, 2590 S. Carson St.

The fair opens at noon Friday through Sunday and includes rides, live music by local artists, crafts and food. All-day wristbands cost $30 each; $5 discount coupons are available at www.nevadaruralrsvp.org.

This year’s event offers pumpkin carving contests and Halloween costume contests for children and adults. Contest rules are available at RSVP’s website.

All proceeds from the carnival go to programs for homebound and low-income seniors in Carson City.
