Eckankar offering worship service today

A free worship service titled Recognizing God’s Help in Every Moment will be offered at 10 a.m. today at the Carson City Community Center.

The one-hour service, sponsored by Eckankar, Religion of the Light and Sound of God, offers a talk by a facilitator, followed by readings, small-group discussions and a short contemplation.

Back 40 featured at First Baptist block party

The Back 40 Band will be featured at First Baptist Church’s block party to be held from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29 at the church at the corner of Bath and Mountain streets in Carson City.

The Back 40 Band plays country and classic bluegrass music. The band has been voted Metrolands Best Country Band five times and has been a three-time winner of the Times Union Best of the Capital Region award.

The block party will also feature drawing prizes, games, a bounce house, other activities for kids and free lunch.
