the Carson City Airport is holding its free open house Saturday for community members.
The open house is designed to raise community awareness of the importance of aviation and aerospace for Carson City and the Nevada economy.
The event runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Carson City Airport. A pancake breakfast provided by the Experimental Aircraft Association, kicks off the open house, followed by flybys beginning at 9:30 a.m.
“The Carson City Airport is pleased and excited to be holding an open house this year... The airport and its supporters look forward to offering the public a fantastic opportunity to explore the world of aviation and aerospace,” Tim Rowe, Carson City Airport General Manager, said in a press release.
Attendees can expect to see a variety of booths and activities at the open house, including formation flying, helicopter demonstrations, antique airplanes, hot air balloon rides and bounce houses.
One booth that will be at the event is the Make-A-Wish Foundation booth where attendees can make free arts and crafts, meet different Wish families, or enter two raffles. One of the prizes is an iPad donated from Kathy Roller, a mother who started the non-profit organization iPads from Isaac after her son passed away from DiGeorge Syndrome.
This year’s event theme is focused on robotics, aviation and aerospace. The airport wants to educate and encourage young people to consider careers in these three areas.
“Collectively we are dedicated to expanding education and lifelong learning opportunities in the aviation and aerospace fields...The Carson City Airport is proud to offer such an outstanding, free event to our community,” Rowe said. “We encourage everyone to attend.”
