St. Peters Episcopal Church bell. A less crackulous [sic] sound than has hitherto emitted from the Epitholic bell were audible to the grateful ear. Must be that they’ve dug out the old crevice.

Local notes. The State Capitol is insured for $125,000. Professor Friend (state meteorologist, without pay) reports the barometer was lower yesterday than at any time for some weeks.

Empire Mill. The old mill in Six Mile Canyon is being dismantled. It has been a familiar landmark and during the early days of the Comstock handled $1,000 per ton ores for the Con Virginia and California mines.

Cigarettes. The war department said that fewer cigarettes would be needed for military distribution and that there will be a 50 percent increase of supplies to civilians. Phillip Morris and Company, Ltd. said it has scheduled deliveries to jobbers.
