Nevada Appeal at 150: Oct. 4, 1957: State Museum to get coin press made in Carson

An 1878 coin press which was manufactured at the Virginia & Truckee railroad shop here, has been released to the Nevada State Museum, Sen. George W. Malone announced here today.

The press was released by the U.S. Mint and the National Park Service, Malone said, at his request, after it had been granted to NPS for use in the old San Francisco Mint, which is presently being considered for a museum.

Malone said he made the requests to the secretary of interior and the Park Service to have the press returned to Carson for use in the state museum here.

Malone was informed today that the press would be returned to its original site of operation in the Carson museum.

This continues the Appeal’s review of news stories and headlines during its Sesquicentennial year.
