Reno’s new and only standalone growler fill station, SixFour Growlers, is pouring it forward.

Usually new businesses have a hard time keeping the lights on in their first year, but this growler fill station is using their beer money for a good cause.

“At this point we’ve sold over a 1,000 growler bottles and over 2,500 growler fills. “It sounds like a lot, but you’d be surprised how quick that can go,” said co-owner Brett Schaeffer.

“The busier we get, the more we’re going to give back.”

Some of the organizations SixFour Growlers has given back to: golf tournament for DRHS football, Golf Tournament for RFD, Boys and Girls Club Microsoft Golf Tournament, Pops on the River. They also are a founding sponsor for the Reno Craft Beer Week, NSET, Tour de Nez, Yelp, Reno 10 miler and Journal Jog, Monthly EFAST Fun Run giving runners free pints and a fundraiser for Zack Dado, a little guy who is getting a kidney transplant.

“Owning your own business isn’t easy, but if you don’t give back to the community in which you serve then there is no business,” said Richard Taylor, the other co-owner.

In business since April of 2015, the guys at SixFour Growlers are working long hours into making the business a success.

“Every patron that comes in is treated like a friend and given a solid pour from a variety of area brews, some of which are exclusively provided to SixFour Growlers for distribution,” said Schaffer.

“Who would have thought drinking beer could be a going to a good cause? Now you know.”
