Dangerous: Day before yesterday evening some rascally son of a gun tied a piece of old rawhide to the tail of a loose horse when the animal, becoming frightened, ran furiously through the streets and over the sidewalks to the great danger of ladies and children, and men too for that matter.

The circus: The Grand Combination Railroad Show of Sells Brothers have come and gone. The procession was lengthy and attractive, giving promise of good performance. The promise was kept as the well satisfied crowds of the afternoon and evening will testify.

W. R. McFadden of the State Industrial Commission is a visitor to Battle Mountain on business connected with his office. Mac has become a mine owner lately and states that the tungsten property owned by himself and associates near Mill City is showing up well and promises to be a substantial producer (Battle Mountain Scout).

70 years ago

Nevada’s population now stands at an all-time high of 159,790 and Ormsby County itself has a population of 5,000, according to estimates announced yesterday by E.H. Walker, secretary of the Reno Chamber of Commerce.

Launching their fundraising drive yesterday with an open letter to all Carson City residents, the Citizens for Carson College covered a large segment of the city in a two-hour door-to-door campaign.

If you ever wanted to own a drug dealer’s getaway car or the fastest vehicle in the Nevada Highway Patrol fleet, then show up Saturday for the annual state auction in Reno. The state will be auctioning 190 surplus vehicles including police cars, jeeps, boats and even a Porsche.
