Grand ball: Mr. Spooner will give a grand ball at his station on the Lake Bigler (Tahoe) Road on Monday evening, July 2. Every preparation has been made to render this a very delightful affair. Billy Wilson’s stage will run for the benefit of those who wish to attend.

130 years ago

Yesterday the editor of the Appeal received an invitation to appear in the Virginia City procession for July 4. The idea is to have us go up there and parade on our old yellow pot-bellied cayuse of the mountains; the same animal that was such a distinguishing feature of the parade last year. This spectacle would draw many people away from here; and attract vast crowds of the rustic population to the Comstock. Fealty to our own fair city compels us to decline. We had rather be a yellow dog and bay at the moon in Carson, than be Grand Marshal of a Virginia parade.

In celebration of her birthday anniversary last Friday, Mrs. Edwin Miller was treated to a family dinner at the Stateline Club, Lake Tahoe. Members of the family present were Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Miller, Mr. And Mrs. Bud Miller, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith and son, Corkey.
