Local businesses contribute to senior gift program

The Home Instead Senior Care office serving Reno and Carson City is beginning the next phase of Be a Santa to a Senior program.

After gathering gifts from trees at local participating organizations, Carson City’s office tallied up 366 gifts total to seniors. Today, volunteers from both cities are meeting at the office in Carson City to wrap up the gifts and prepare them for distribution.

Shelly Rosario, Home Instead Service Manager, said participation rates were lower this year, however, the program still received a great amount without the help of chain stores.

“So many places have pulled through for us,” she said. “This is just Carson City alone. We made it a competition.”

Participating local businesses and organizations included Paradise Salon, Smith’s grocery stories in Carson City and Dayton, and Swift Communications.

Each party will be delivering their gifts to multiple senior homes in the area, including in Gardnerville and Eagle Valley, before Christmas.
