A Reno man is restarting the Sierra Boys Choir, a musical ensemble active in the 1970s, who will perform six concerts a year in the Carson City and Reno area.
Nathan Lundholm is looking for a choir teacher and director, positions that will be on a volunteer basis until the choir starts pulling in enough money to compensate the positions, he said.
Three volunteers are also needed to judge auditions, which are planned from 4 to 7 p.m. April 19-21. All volunteers are required to submit to a background check.
Twenty choristers, ranging in ages from 9 to 13, are needed to fill out the alto to soprano choir.
“It is very important that we get the choir going again. The original Sierra Boys Choir brought a lot to our town, both artistically and economically. It was even chosen to be featured in the hit Hollywood film ‘The Godfather Part 2,’” Lundholm said.
Those interested in auditioning are asked to have their parents make an appointment by calling Lundholm at 775-229-6142. Walk-in auditions also will be available, but priority will be given to those with appointments.
Choristers are expected to make weekly practices in the Reno/Sparks area and every concert. Lundholm is asking choristers’ families to make voluntary financial contributions weekly or monthly to help fund the choir. A percentage of concert ticket proceeds will go to provide scholarships for choristers.
