Religion briefs: Lutheran church building playground

Lutheran child care center installing new playground

Trinity Lutheran Child Care Center and Kindergarten is using $31,847 in grants and donations to install safe outdoor play equipment. This spring the center is holding work days and acquiring donations to install the equipment over the summer months.

The largest contribution was through the Let’s Play grant. Dr. Pepper, Snapple and national nonprofit KaBOOM! awarded the center a $15,000 Let’s Play grant to purchase and install a playground equipment system called BCI Burke Voltage by September.

The center’s staff works with the nearly 100 children to encourage play. While being accredited in 2013 by the National Association of the Education of Young Children, it was recommended the playground equipment be updated to provide a safer system. Supporters and parents raised $16,847 to help match the grant funds and provide enough to purchase and install the equipment. The center needs to raise an additional $15,000 to ensure they can purchase and install the equipment.

Donations, which are being accepted at the center, 1174 Mill St., Gardnerville, are needed by June 1. For more information, go to www.tlchildcare.com or www.facebook.com/TrinityLutheranGV.
