SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKLES: Paying it forward in Carson City

Silver Dollars and Wooden Nickels is a weekly feature in the Appeal’s Opinion pages in which the Appeal gives Silver Dollars to those who deserve recognition and occasionally a Wooden Nickel to those who deserve criticism.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Pastor Chris White and Fountain Foursquare Church for providing $10,000 to Carson High staff to “pay it forward.” CHS staff were each given $50 and were told it was their decision on how best to use the money.

SILVER DOLLAR: To longtime Little League volunteer — who has done a great deal for the entire community for that matter — Mike Petterson, who threw out the first pitch during the Carson City Little League opening ceremonies last Saturday.

SILVER DOLLAR: While we admittedly don’t like the nature of the business of college basketball, we still have to give Eric Musselman a Silver Dollar even though he left to take over as the University of Arkansas men’s basketball coach. Musselman put the University of Nevada men’s basketball program on the national map over the last four year’s as the program’s coach.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the Carson City Arts Initiative and Carson City Art and Culture Coordinator Mark Salinas for being honored with 2019 Nevada Humanities Awards.
