Community sports: Toiyabe now under Duncan Golf Management

Duncan Golf Management has taken over the management of Toiyabe Golf Club.

2019 rates for Duncan Golf Management members now includes Toiyabe. Duncan Golf Management members will pay current dues at Toiyabe through Dec. 31. The rates will change on Jan. 1, 2020.

A new twilight membership is also being offered. A twilight member will receive all the benefits offered after noon at Toiyabe Golf Club and Dayton Valley Golf Club. Access to these clubs will be before noon will be granted at member guest fees.

We are also offering a new Twilight Membership.

Off-season daily golf rates will be $45 per player and $30 for twilight members after 1 p.m. Pre-post season golf rates Monday through Thursday will be $45 per player and $30 for twilight members after 2 p.m.

Friday through Sunday rates will be $50 per player and $35 for twilight members after 2 p.m. In season golf rates Monday through Thursday will be $55 per player $40 after 1 p.m. and $30 after 4 for twilight members. Friday through Sunday rates will be $65, $40 after 1 p.m. and $30 after 4 for twilight members.

Tournament Rates: Add $5 to the posted rate

Junior Rates: $5 after 3 p.m. offseason and after 4 p.m. in season

Member Guest Rate: $5 off posted rate

Employee Rate: Complimentary after 11 a.m. depending on availability — no advance tee times.

Employee Guest Rate: $25 after 11 a.m.

Sutter wins CVMGC event

The Carson Valley Men’s Golf Club held its individual stroke play tournament with Stableford scoring on Sunday. Flight 1 was won by Nick Sutter with 42 Stableford points followed by a tie between James Howard and Marc Menezes with 38 points and Ken Smitreski with 36 points. Flight 2 was won by Mike Davis followed by Fred Coons with 41 points and a tie between Ken Iacuaniello and Augie Martinez with 40 points. Paul Lockwood won Flight 3 with 44 points ahead of Melvin Ness with 43 points, Gary Carsten with 42 points and Donald Dick with 41 points. The closest to the pin contest was won by Mike Davis on Hole No. 17 and Mel Ness on Hole No. 18.

Sapien takes Silver Oak member-guest

Jim Sapien shot a one-over 72 for the low gross score at the Sunday Men’s Club member-guest tournament April 28 at Silver Oak Golf Course.

The low net (after handicap is applied) top finishers in the first flight were Brian Sweet and Sapien tied with 67, followed by Larry Johnson 69, John Meyer 70, and Nick Providenti 71.

In the second flight (players with higher handicaps), Scott Lusty shot the low net 67. Behind him were Jay Wiggins 68, Stevan Lyon 69, and Paul Jorgensen and Jim Shabi tied for fourth with 72.

In the third flight, Brad Williams led the way with a low net 65, while Gary Gamba, Doug Smeltzer, and Jeff Sorenson tied for second with 67, and Dennis Klenczar was fifth with 69.

The Sunday Men’s Club season runs every Sunday through Oct. 27 at Silver Oak Golf Course and features weekly games with three flights based on handicap and optional gross and net skins games.

Golfers may stop by the golf shop to pick up an application or visit www.silveroakgolf.com to print out and mail an entry. Members of the men’s club receive reduced green fees, range balls every Sunday, Golf Handicap and Information Network (GHIN) service for the year, lunches and awards banquet, prizes, trophies, and access to a web portal to view events and scores each week.
