Taxable sales: Most of Northern Nevada had strong start to 2021



On March 25, the Nevada Department of Taxation released updated statistics for taxable sales for the month of January, revealing large percentage gains for many Northern Nevada counties, as well as significant decreases in the south.


Percentage-wise, the largest year-over-year increases occurred in Humboldt County (131%), followed by Carson City (13.3%) and Churchill (13.2%).


Washoe County saw a 10.5% YOY increase, reporting an additional $78.6 million in taxable sales this January.

Meanwhile, Clark County reported a 8.5% YOY decrease, roughly $320 million less than January 2020.


Below is a breakdown of major counties’ taxable sales, comparing January 2021 with the same month in 2020, and the YOY percent difference:


  • Carson City: $109,980,549 versus $97,066,356 (13.3%)
  • Churchill: $29,663,216 versus $26,198,664 (13.2%)
  • Clark: $3,444,302,204 versus $3,763,800,056 (-8.5%)
  • Douglas: $68,809,454 versus $64,410,035 (6.8%)
  • Elko: $121,165,549 versus $131,613,802 (-7.9%)
  • Humboldt: $52,717,882 versus $22,823,434 (131%)
  • Lyon: $57,443,683 versus $51,845,517 (10.8%)
  • Storey: $43,058,657 versus $44,672,618 (-3.6%)
  • Washoe: $823,786,887 versus $745,175,826 (10.5%)
