The Greater Reno Community Ice Skating Association (GRCISA) announced June 22 the nonprofit Reno Ice is accepting applications for a new scholarship program provided in partnership with SCHEELS in Sparks.

Reno Ice, which opened the Jennifer M. O’Neal Community Ice Arena in January at 15500 Wedge Parkway, offers skating lessons for all ages, as well as power skating, figure skating, ice hockey, sled hockey, speed skating and more.

Beginning this spring, scholarships will be available to youths ages 5-17 who show an interest in learning ice sports, but demonstrate a financial hardship that may prevent them from participating.

Monthly applications will be accepted and reviewed with the support of SCHEELS, according to a June 22 press release; recipients will be awarded “based on their specific need and the program for which they are applying.”

“Our mission is to make sure that those who want to be involved are able to do so, without obstacles,” Joel Grace, president of GRISCA, said in a statement. “Reno Ice is here to serve our entire community. We feel passionate about the opportunity to assist any child that may not otherwise have the opportunity to be involved in ice sports and would like to thank SCHEELS for joining us as a partner in this effort.”

To apply, visit the
Reno Ice website and select the scholarship tab, or email amy@renoice.com to receive a copy of the application.
