Reno Rebuild Project awards $50K loan to hockey shop

This month, the Reno Rebuild Project provided a $50,000 loan to the Bar Down Hockey Shop located inside the Reno Ice: Jennifer M. O'Neal Community Ice Arena in South Reno.
The Reno Rebuild Project launched in 2012 and is administered by the owners of Brewer’s Cabinet, Sierra Tap House, Ole Bridge Pub and Shim’s Surplus in Reno — Michael Connolly, Chris Kahl and Zachary Cage.
The project provides loans from $5,000 to $50,000 for 3-5 years at 4% interest. All interest and repayments of the loans go back directly to the Reno Rebuild fund for future projects and investments. The way the fund works, a nickel per item sold at Sierra Tap House, Ole Bridge Pub and Brewer's Cabinet goes into the Reno Rebuild Fund at the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada. Bar Down Hockey Shop qualified as this year's largest recipient for a $50,000 loan, according to a Sept. 13 press release. "What we are looking for is a great idea that will bring something new to our city and improve our lives," Kahl said in a statement. "Bar Down Hockey is exactly the type of business we strive to support.”
According to the press release, the $50,000 loan will help complete development of the shop that will provide the supplies, sporting equipment and resources to the families enjoying the Reno Ice facility.
"The Reno Rebuild Project is such a special part of the community,” Austin Schoen, co-owner of Bar Down Hockey Shop, said in a statement. “It shows how much support entrepreneurs and local business owners have in Reno. This project has made it possible for our new store to become a full picture reality.”
Schoen opened his first Bar Down Hockey Shop location in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 2015. He later opened a second shop in Kansas City.
