People: Sherilyn Duckworth named executive director of Immunize Nevada

Immunize Nevada, statewide nonprofit focused on advocating for and providing access to immunizations for Nevadans, has announced that Sherilyn Duckworth, Ph.D., MPH has accepted the position of executive director for the organization, heading up the entity’s efforts to advocate for vaccination and assist the State of Nevada in COVID-19 vaccine and booster efforts.

Duckworth comes from the CDC Foundation in Atlanta, Georgia, where she led her disease team to perform COVID-19 case investigations, contact tracing and the coordination of response resources. In her former roles, which encompass both public and nonprofit responsibilities, Duckworth accumulated a wealth of experience leading programs, supervising staff and collaborating with governmental bodies and leaders to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in matters of public health.


In 2020, Duckworth received her COVID-19 contract tracing certification from John Hopkins University, in addition to certifications previously received in youth mental health first aid training and applied suicide intervention skills. At Immunize Nevada, Duckworth will be directing statewide, coordinated efforts to disseminate public health information on a range of health issues in addition to the novel coronavirus, including annual influenza vaccinations, pertussis, measles, human papillomavirus and Hepatitis A and B immunizations.


Duckworth earned both her Doctor of Philosophy, Health Education and Promotion and Master of Public Health, Health Care Organization and Policy with an emphasis in health behavior from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She earned her Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of West Alabama.
