The Northern Nevada Regional Multiple Listing Service made donations of $2,500 to the Nevada Youth Empowerment Project and Austin’s House, nonprofit organizations based in Northern Nevada.

According to the National Council of Nonprofits, the pandemic has severely impacted nonprofit organizations across the nation; however, these gifts were made possible due to pandemic-related meeting procedures. The NNRMLS board of trustees found that because most meetings were held via Zoom in 2021, a portion of the meeting budget had gone unused. The trustees unanimously decided to use the overage to make a positive impact in the community.

Since NNRMLS is owned by two associations, one based in Reno and one based in Carson City, and each shareholder appoints five of NNRMLS’ 10 board members, the choice was made to divide the meeting savings between the two geographic regions.

From 2019 to 2020, 100 percent of the young women served by the Nevada Youth Empowerment Project were provided a safe and warm home, 88 percent met high school proficiency requirements, and 50 percent went on to post-secondary education. The donation provided by NNRMLS will provide funding for training, housing, and resources to empower the young women experiencing homelessness in our region.

The mission of Austin’s House is to provide a safe haven for any child in need, to provide a nurturing living and learning environment, and to promote the health and wellbeing of children through assessment and appropriate intervention.
