'C's the Day: Cloudy, chilly in Carson City for Nevada's birthday party

It's going to start breezy. By the end of Nevada Day, it could be downright stormy.

The National Weather Service forecast for today's parade carries a little bit of everything - wind, chilly temperatures, perhaps some showers and increasing clouds as the day progresses.

It all depends on the timing, because the weather may be fine at the parade's start at 10 a.m. But as the floats and bands progress south on Carson Street, they'll be racing a front bringing a fresh set of showers into Western Nevada.

According to Weather Service forecaster Roger Lamoni, winds will be blowing 15-25 mph in the morning and considerably higher in the afternoon.

Lamoni said there will be a high wind watch in effect this afternoon.

"If people are going down to the parade, they should remember to bring a coat," Lamoni said. "Going home, they need to know it is going to be windy, so they should drive carefully."

As Nevada Day moves along, the forecast is for increasing clouds with the chance of precipitation going up to 30 percent in the afternoon hours.

The snow level is expected to drop to 6,000 feet. The high temperature today is predicted to be 56, and the low is to be 33 degrees.
