Obituary: Andrew A. Hofer

A memorial service for Andrew A. Hofer, 83, a Dayton resident for the past 15 years, was held Friday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

Mr. Hofer died July 24, 2000 at Carson Health Care Nursing Home. He was born March 27, 1917, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Andrew Sr. and Marie Hofer.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He moved to California in the 1940s and to Nevada in 1950 where he homesteaded in the Johnson Lane area.

Mr. Hofer worked in several capacities at the Nevada State Prison in Carson City for 22 years, retiring in 1978. He enjoyed raising a wide variety of animals and pets and working on automobiles and heavy machinery.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Among his survivors are his wife Patti, two daughters, one brother, a niece and nephew, three stepchildren, 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley, Crematory and Cemetery, is in charge of arrangements.
