Obituary: George Newell

George Allen Newell, 57, of Carson City died March 6 at his home.

He was born Sept. 6, 1942, in Los Angeles, Calif., to George Otis Newell and Ruby Frances Clayton-Newell.

Mr. Newell retired from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office as a sergeant in 1990. He spent his retirement enjoying life, friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by his brother, James Earl Newell, and by his first granddaughter, Karina Lily Smith.

Survivors include Mr. Newell's wife of 40 years, Joann; daughters Diana Jo Girouard and Sherry Lynn Smith, and grandchildren Michael and Rebekka Girouard, Bethany, Faith, Katrina, Patricia, Blake, Clayton and Benjamin Newell Smith.

Mr. Newell requested no services or flowers. Donations may be made in his name to Carson Valley Community Church, 3616 Sunridge Drive, Carson city, NV 89701.
