Go to visitors bureau site to win lunch with Hunt

The Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau is offering visitors to their Web site a chance to win lunch with Nevada's No. 2 lawmaker at one of her favorite Carson City restaurants.

The prize package for the winner and a guest includes dining with Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt at Adele's Restaurant and Lounge. In addition, the winner and a guest will receive a night's accommodations at the Best Western Piñon Plaza Resort.

The Web site promotion is the third in a series of "only in Carson City" offers. Others include a stint as assistant engineer on the V&T Railroad during a steam-up and a private tour of the Nevada State Museum with its curator.

Holiday concert by Capital City band

The Capital City Community Band will open its 27th concert season at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center.

The concert will feature holiday favorites, marches and traditional band music.

The concert, under the direction of Richard Doede, is free and sponsored, in part, by the Carson City Department of Parks and Recreation.

City seeks applicants to serve on river committee

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from people interested in serving on the Carson River Advisory Committee. The committee provides advice on matters concerning the development, maintenance, management and operation of the Carson River. There is one opening for a property owner of less than 20 acres (within a reasonable proximity to the Carson River Corridor).

The term for the position expires January 2007.

Applicants should be aware that a minimum commitment of up to 10 hours per month is expected. All members serve without compensation.

The board of supervisors will appoint qualified persons to the committee who are residents and registered voters in Carson City.

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. All applications submitted to this office will be considered public information. Applications are located on www.carson-city.nv.us/humanresources or call 887-2100.

Parents for Quality Education Forum meeting on Tuesday

The third forum sponsored by Parents for Quality Education is scheduled from 5:30-8 p.m. Tuesday in the library of Carson Middle School, 1140 W. King St.

All are invited to attend. The moderator is Roger Kirkland.

Victorian Christmas begins on Comstock

Virginia City is celebrating a monthlong Victorian Christmas Party during Christmas on the Comstock.

Today is the big day to create Christmas memories in Virginia City.

Bring your camera and pose with Father Christmas and the Virginia City Living Legends for your own personal Christmas cards at the Visitors Center on C Street

Enjoy hot chocolate and cookies from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Stay for the Parade of Lights at 5 p.m., then celebrate Christmas Victorian style at the Fourth Ward School.

Pipers Opera House is presenting "The Nutcracker" ballet with two performances at 2 and 7. p.m.

Friday, the Comstock Cowboys "Christmas in the Sierra" concert is at Piper's Opera House.

Enjoy dinner at 6 p.m. and the concert at 7 p.m.

Dinner and show tickets are $35 or adults $25 for seniors and children under 8.

Or get a family package of tickets for $70 that covers two adults and two children or seniors.

Tickets for the concert are $25 for all ages.
