Tribe plans development of properties in Fallon, Fernley

The Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe plans to develop more than 40 acres of property in Fallon and Fernley, says Gerry Emm, economic development director for the Fallon Tribal Development Corp.

The FTDC will add new commercial and retail centers at three sites: its Fox Peak Center and Saiidi-Dahl parcels in Fallon and its Nevada Pacific Parkway parcel in Fernley.

Fox Peak Center, located at the corners of Sherman and East Williams streets on the east side of Fallon, comprises 36 acres and houses Fox Peak Station, a smoke shop and convenience store, as well as a Quizn's. The tribe is seeking proposals for sewer, roads and other infrastructure to develop the rest of the land.

"We want to have commercial and retail on part of it, and possibly some professional space," Emm says. "We want things that would provide tax revenue, rents and profits."

The 2.3-acre combined Saiidi-Dahl parcels are located on west side of town on corners of Highway 50 and Bottom Road. The Tribe seeks leasing representation as well as plans for developing infrastructure.

"That site definitely is commercial retail," Emm says.

The tribe also plans to develop its 2.3-acre Nevada Pacific Parkway parcel, located in Fernley at the corners of U.S. 50 and Nevada Pacific Parkway, into another Fox Peak Station convenience store and smoke shop. The tribe seeks plans for engineering and a building design and an additional 5,000 to 8,000 square feet of retail and commercial space.

Although the Fallon Piute-Shoshone Tribe cannot sell its properties, it can offer leases up to 99 years, Emm says.
