47-year-old inmate dies

A Nevada inmate serving up to 20 years as a habitual criminal has died.

The Department of Corrections says 47-year-old Jeffrey McKenna died Wednesday at Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center of a chronic medical condition.

The agency says medical staff at Northern Nevada Correctional Center called 911 and McKenna was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he died.

McKenna was convicted of burglary in Washoe County and sentenced to eight to 20 years under the state’s habitual criminal statutes. He had been in prison on the most recent case since 2011.

Officials say an autopsy has been requested.
