A man was killed Wednesday night near mile marker 25 in Silver Springs when he hit a wild horse and was thrown off his motorcycle.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist, whose name has not been released pending notification of next of kin. was ejected onto the eastbound lane of the two-lane highway. The NHP said after the incident that occurred at about 8:25 p.m., three passenger vehicles traveling eastbound on U.S. 50 were unable to avoid striking the rider in the roadway.
The NHP said crash details indicate a 2007 silver Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by a male was traveling westbound in Silver Springs just west of Rocky Road when he struck a wild horse standing in the westbound travel lane.
The speed limit in that area is 65 miles per hour and there is no roadway lighting. The NHP said the drivers of the vehicles involved in the accident are cooperating with the highway patrol’s investigation. The NHP said alcohol or any other means of impairment are not a factor for the cause of the accident
The accident is still under investigation and no names are being release at this time until next of kin has been notified.
