Partners at Reno-based Avansino, Melarkey, Knobel, Mulligan & McKenzie on June 29 announced that the law office has joined Las Vegas-based McDonald Carano.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but McDonald Carano said the merger will expand its firm’s presence in Nevada.
“Joining McDonald Carano is a natural fit and the optimal next step for our firm,” said Mark W. Knobel, shareholder and partner at AMKM.
“With the partnership, our geographic reach will now span from northern to southern Nevada, offering our team the opportunity to provide our well-known and highly personalized service in a new market.”

With the addition of AMKM, the firm will be a strong player in the areas of trust, estates and taxation.
Founded by Raymond C. Avansino Jr., AMKM has been a part of the northern Nevada community since 1971.
According to a statement, leaders at both firms, who have been in negotiations for more than a year, cited their combined strengths in estate and trust, business transaction and taxation as one of the many reasons for the merger.
The affiliation will also expand McDonald Carano beyond its current practice areas.
The merger will utilize AMKM’s strong skill set in the area of charitable planning, according to the statement.
