Inmate death reported at Stewart Conservation Camp in Carson City

Prison officials say a 55-year-old inmate serving his 14th year of a possible 23-year sentence for robbery with a weapon died at a minimum-custody facility in Carson City.

A Nevada Department of Corrections statement issued Wednesday says Robert Dean Vanwagenen died Monday at the Stewart Conservation Camp adjacent to the Northern Nevada Correctional Center.

The statement didn’t disclose circumstances of Vanwagenen’s death.

It said an autopsy would be conducted by the Carson City coroner.

Vanwagenen had been in prison since May 2001 on a conviction in Washoe County.

He and was serving consecutive sentences of 35 months to 13 years for robbery and 35 months to 10 years on a deadly weapon enhancement.
