Carson City students came together Thursday to participate in the annual Band-O-Rama event.

The event features nearly 500 students from all the elementary, middle and high schools in the Carson City School District band program.

“I think it is exciting to see the different schools all working together to achieve a common goal,” said Nicole Melsheimer, Fritsch Elementary music director. “And they get a chance to meet kids from different sites.”

The bands all practiced the music on their own, then came together the day of the performance to practice as one band. Each elementary, middle and high school performed music individually, with a one full-band presentation for the finale.

“While some kids may feel a little nervous, I believe many are excited to share their music and hear other bands perform as well,” Melsheimer said.

The event was free and open to the public for everyone to come and enjoy the music.

“It is impressive with what these kids are performing in band,” Melsheimer said. “It is great to have a community event that supports music in our schools.”
