Carson City students learned about cattle and dairy, grain, farm animals, nutrition and a host of other topics during Ag Day Thursday at Empire Elementary School.

The event was coordinated by Woody Worthington, president of the Carson and Douglas County Farm Bureau, the Nevada Department of Agricultural and other agencies.

A dozen stations were set up to share about rabbits, snakes, swine, tractors, water management, weeds and the National Resources Conservation Service.

Worthington said the main goal of the event is agricultural literacy.

“Agricultural is not just one industry,” he said. “It is very diverse and interconnected.”

The students learned about how agriculture is more than just livestock. The Carson Valley and surrounding areas provide not only for the local region, but also across the country.

Les Schwab provided unlimited popcorn for each student.
