SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: Honoring our fallen peace officers

Silver Dollars and Wooden Nickels is a weekly feature in the Appeal’s Opinion pages in which the Appeal gives Silver Dollars to those who deserve recognition and occasionally a Wooden Nickel to those who deserve criticism.

SILVER DOLLAR: To all the law enforcement officers who participated in The Peace Officers Memorial Run. The annual relay started in Las Vegas last week and ended with a ceremony at the State Capitol on Thursday. Each of the 134 legs of the relay represented the name of a fallen officer.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson City for being named the best rising housing market in Nevada, according to Insurify, an insurance comparing shopping website. Insurify named Carson City as one of the winners of the 2019 Best Up and Coming Housing Markets Award. Carson City received the honor based on increased home values over the past decade, home value forecasts, current year-over-year median sales price trends, 2018 building permits and share of homeowners. One city in each state was honored with the 2019 Best Up and Coming Housing Market Award.
