Nevada COVID task force winding down as counties reopen

Nevada’s COVID-19 Task Force has begun the process of winding down as local governments assumed management of the pandemic on May 1.
Gov. Steve Sisolak said Friday that includes the departure of Task Force Director Caleb Cage, who will return to his position at the Nevada System of Higher Education on June 10. “I could not be more grateful to Caleb for answering the call to serve our state throughout this crisis,” said Sisolak.
He said Cage’s expertise in emergency management and his leadership have been invaluable in guiding Nevada’s response efforts.
“While the pandemic is not yet over, our state response efforts will naturally transition as the situation evolves and we will focus on mass vaccination of Nevadans,” he said.
Cage will work through May to ensure coordination remains in place beyond June.
Then he will assume his post as vice chancellor for workforce development/chief innovation officer at NSHE.
Sisolak said the Task Force will meet as needed. With county health officials assuming responsibility for handling the pandemic as of May 1, Sisolak said the Task Force will formally sunset June 1.
Sisolak said weekly calls to the press will continue through May at noon on Wednesdays.
After May, communications and procedures in place before the pandemic will return on an as-needed basis.
